Two members of a family drowned in the Karatoa river of Bogura’s Sherpur upazila today, police said.
The deceased were identified as Chandan Kumar, 35, a fisherman of Sherpur’s Chandidan village, and his daughter Kiran Mala, 6.
Chandan's nephew Arup Kumar Bodo went missing, our local correspondent reports.
Quoting locals and family, Humayan Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sherpur Police Station, said, “Chandan along with his daughter and nephew went to the Karatoa river for catching fish around 1:30pm.
Chandan taking Kiran and Arup on his shoulder tried to cross the river to go to the other side of the river but drowned, OC Kabir said.
Locals tried to rescue them but failed. Later, on information, police and fire fighters rushed to the spot and recovered bodies of Chandan and his daughter around 3:00pm, the OC added.
Rescue operation is continuing as Arup still remains missing.
