Writ challenges appointment of Viqarunnisa principal

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court challenging the appointment of Professor Fouzia Rezwan as the principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College.

Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Eunus Ali Akond submitted the petition to the HC seeking stay on the appointment of Fouzia.

In the petition, he said that the governing body of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College is the authority to appoint its principal whereas the government has authority to appoint the teachers.

But the government has illegally appointed Fouzia as the principal of the institution on September 15 though it has no jurisdiction to do so as per relevant rules and regulations, he said in the petition.

Akond prayed to the HC to issue a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government and Fouzia Rezwan to explain why the appointment should not be declared illegal.

He told The Daily Star that the HC may hold hearing on the petition later in the day.

In 2018, principal Nazneen Ferdous and two other teachers of the institution were removed over the suicide of Aritry Adhikari, a student of the school.

Later, the authorities concerned of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College appointed its assistant professor Hasina Begum acting principal.
