Three held for issuing fake NID to Rohingyas

Three people including an office assistant of the Regional Election Office in Chattogram have been detained for their alleged connection in issuing fake National Identification Cards (NIDs) to Rohingya refugees.

The arrestees were identified as Md Jainal Abedin, 35, office assistant of Double Mooring Election Office, Bijoy Das, a diver by profession and his sister Sima Das, all are residents of Patiya upazila, said Deputy Director of Election Commission (NID) Iqbal Hossain.

"After getting information of recovering a missing official laptop belonging to the election commission, a team of police from Kotwali Police Station rushed to Chattogram Regional Election Office around 10:30pm and made the arrests," said Mohammad Mohsin, officer in charge of Kotwali Police Station.

A three-member team of the Election Commission led by Iqbal Hossain has been conducting drives in various places of Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram as part of their crackdown on the allegation of issuing fake NIDs to Rohingya refugees.
