Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said her government will establish human rights in the country through ensuring the trial of all human rights violation incidents.

"All we need most is to ensure the rule of law for establishing human rights. Criminals have to face punishment, no matter who they’re, this is our decision and we’re working on it," she said.

The premier said this while addressing the Human Rights Day 2019 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.

Prime Miniser Sheikh Hasina said drive against drugs, terrorism, militancy and corruption is going on as these destroy and contaminate a society. "So, the resistance should come from society first against these menaces…this is urgently needed to create awareness among people," she said.

The prime minister said the government has enacted various human rights-related laws and amended many and strengthened the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

NHRC organised the program with the theme 'Youth standing up for human rights'.

Law Minister Anisul Huq, NHRC Chairman Nasima Begum, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Bangladesh Mia Seppo and NHRC full-time member Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahmed also spoke at the event.
