Ekushey Book Fair Begins on Feb 2

The opening of the month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair has been pushed back to Feb 2 due to elections in Dhaka City, which was rescheduled for Feb 1.

“The fair will open on Feb 2 instated of Feb 1,” Bangla Academy Director General Habibullah Sirajee said.

The Amar Ekushey Book Fair, dedicated to the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement was historically launched by the country's premier on Feb 1 every year.

Yesterday, Election Commission pushed back the Dhaka city polls by two days after clamors for it to be rescheduled as it coincided with the Hindu festival of Saraswati Puja.

The new date, however, coincided with the opening and first day of the book fair.
