PM, AL’s New Committee Pay Tribute to Bangabandhu at Tungipara

The newly elected central working committee and the advisory council of the Awami League (AL), headed by its president Sheik Hasina, paid rich tributes to Father of the Bangabandhu State Sheik Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara in Gopalganj.

They paid the homage by placing wreaths at the mausoleum of the Father of the Nation on Friday (Jan 24).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina first laid a wreath at the mausoleum of Bangabandhu.

She stood there for some time in grave silence after putting the wreath as a display of profound respect for the memory of Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman, the creator of the freedom of the region.

Sheik Hasina later set another wreath at the Bangabandhu mausoleum, the biggest Bangalee of all time, along with representatives of the AL Central Working Committee and the party's advisory council.

They offered prayer seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Bangabandhu.

Secretaries concerned and special assistants to the prime minister were present on the occasion.

Earlier, the prime minister arrived around 11 am in Tungipara, the ancestral home of the Father of the Nation, by an Air Force helicopter.

After the arrival, she recited the Holy Quran and offered Fateha at the mausoleum of Bangabandhu.

Sheik Hasina was re-elected for the ninth consecutive term as president of the Bangladesh Awami League, one of the oldest political parties in the subcontinent, while Obaidul Quader was re-elected as general secretary for the second straight time in the AL's 21st National Council held on 20-21 Dec last.
