PM Warns against Hurting Religious Sentiments

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, warning against hurting religious sentiments, said the government is fully alert about the topic and promised to ensure tough actions against any such attempts.

Her remarks came in parliament today as she answered a question from Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Jatiya Party MP.

The opposition MP claimed that the Motijheel Ideal School and College in Dhaka banned women from wearing scarves.

Hasina replied: "An inquiry by the Ministry of Education confirmed that the charges were not true No decision was taken by the [ school's ] governing body forbidding girls to wear scarves."

Before adding that her administration was working to safeguard the feelings of all faiths, she said Bangladesh is an independent sovereign and secular Country.

BNP MP Harun-ur-Rashid urged the prime minister to travel in Dhaka without any protocol to get an idea of how its residents live in the city.

Hasina said the protocol was linked to security issues.

"But it's not that I am not aware of the city or the country. I keep an eye on everything, since I am responsible for the country it's my duty. But then again there are criticisms like, 'Why the prime minister has to do everything?'," she added.

The number of Bangladeshi workers across the globe is increasing due to the government's diplomatic initiatives focusing on labor markets, the prime minister in response to ruling MP Morshed Alam's query.

"Between 700,000 and 800,000 Bangladeshis are leaving the country as migrant workers every year. Over 6.33 million people have secured jobs abroad from 2009 to 2019, which resulted in a remittance inflow of $153.13 billion during the same period," said Hasina.
