Visiting Indian foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla today said that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is India's internal affair and it will not affect Bangladesh anyhow.

He came up with the remarks while delivering a keynote speech at a seminar on "Bangladesh and India: A Promising Future" hosted by Bangladesh Institute for International Studies (BISS) at Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.

"This is a process that is entirely internal to our country. Therefore, there will be no implications for the government and the people of Bangladesh. You have our assurance on that count," the Indian foreign secretary said.

Shringla also said that serious dialogues regarding the distribution of Teesta water have resumed between India and Bangladesh officials.

"They are working to find a quick solution for this issue," he added.

While speaking about border killing at the India border, Sringla said, "Both Bangladeshi and Indian citizens are killed on the border. The death rate is fifty-fifty. But we only take into account the statistics from Bangladesh, not India."
