Early today, a suspected drug dealer was killed in a gunfight with members of the Bangladesh Border Guard in the Teknaf Upazila canal of Jadimora.

The identity of the victim could not be known yet.

Tipped off, the Noyapara BOP patrol team took position in the area at 4 a.m., said Lt. Col Mohammad Faisal Hasan Khan, commander of the BGB-2 Battalion.

At one point, the team challenged a gang of drug dealers when they arrived in the area by boat.

Sensing danger, the gang members opened fire on them forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

After the gunfight, the BGB team rescued the bullet-injured drug trader and took him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The team also recovered 1.50 lakh Yaba pills, one arm and two rounds of cartridges.
