Additional Security at ‘Mujib Year’ Programme: Home Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said Wednesday that for a smooth celebration of ' Mujib Year ' programmes, security would be ratcheted up.

After a meeting of the sub-committee on defence for the event the minister came up with the remarks.

He said ‘Mujib Year’ programme will be held at the National Parade Square of the Old Airport.

The sub-committees second meeting took place today. It is estimated that around 100,000 guests will join the annual program on March 17.

Day traffic routes will be later set. At the inauguration ceremony, foreign leaders, delegations, and ambassadors from different countries will be given adequate security arrangements.

Fire service and medical teams will be kept ready, said the minister.

In fact, security arrangements will be in effect for the system at the level of City companies, branches, districts and Upazila. Law enforcer frequently tries to thwart social media attempts for manipulation and speculation.

All parade ground gates will be locked before 3:15 pm. In addition, the Ministry of Education will be asked to complete the entire program at the educational institutions in the capital by 11 am, Asaduzzaman added.

When asked whether there will be any restrictions for Coronavirus outbreak, he said till now there is no restriction. All guests are expected to attend the programme.

In the meantime, Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, the chief organizer of the celebration's National Implementation Committee, said the guest list will be finalized in a few days ' time.  

Asked whether BNP would be welcome to the event, he said: "It's a state program and I think everyone who believes in the cause of the Liberation War will be there."
