BGB Files Case against 4 Dead, 85 Others

On Thursday, Border Guard Bangladesh filed a complaint identifying 19 villagers including the four deceased who were killed in a confrontation between BGB leaders and villagers in Khagrachari's Matiranga and 60 to 70 unknown others.

Ishak Ali, a 40 BGB Battalion habildar, lodged the complaint with Matiranga police station for assassinating BGB leader Shaon Mia, attempting to assassinate, unlawfully assemble, snatching weapons, threatening and obstructing law enforcement action and opening fire on them, Matiranga police station officer-in-charge Md Shamsuddin Bhuiyan said.

Two days after Tuesday's BGB-villagers clashed over the seizure of logs that killed five people including one BGB leader and four villagers at Gazinagar in Khagrachari Matiranga, the case was lodged.

Shamsuddin said that no case was lodged by the villagers or the families of the deceased ones until Thursday evening.

He said that extra police forces were deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.

Investigation officer in the case filed by BGB and Matiranga police station inspector Md Shahnur Alam said that the four deceased — Musa Miah, his sons Ahammad Ali and Ali Akbar, Ahammad's father-in-law Mafiz Miah — of Gazinagar in Matiranga, Mofiz's son Hanif Mia and relative Md Rafiqul Islam were among the defendants in the trial.

He did not agree to disclose the names of the other named accused in the case.

He said that none was arrested in the case until Thursday evening.

Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner Pratap Chandra Biswas said that every quarter might file a complaint about the incident and examine how the incident took place, who was involved in it, and what kind of bullets the five killed.

He said that they would take the next steps on the basis of the findings of their probe.

The inspector general of police, Mohammad Jabed Patwary, while addressing a program after the inauguration of Police Officers’ Mess in Khagrachrai on Thursday, said that the perpetrators would be brought to the justice through proper investigation no matter which party filed the case.
