HC Revokes GK Shamim’s Bail Orders in Two Cases

The Sunday High Court canceled its earlier orders that issued bail in two cases to Golam Kibria Shamim alias GK Shamim, who was detained during the anti-casino drive.

HC Justice Bench A K M Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman withdrew their previous order granting him six-month bail in a weapons dispute and the Justice Md Bench.

Deputy Attorney General F R Khan filed a petition requesting cancelation of bail in the weapons case while Deputy Attorney General Shahana Ferdous Rupa filed a further petition in the drug case against the bail request.

Advocate Mamtazuddin Ahmed Mehedi and Shawkat Osman stood for GK Shamim.

Khan said," we were provided no file of the case. GK Shamim received bail for falsifying information. While identified as GK Shamim his name has been listed in the trigger list as S M Golam."

Though Shamim was granted bail a month ago, the incident came to light on Saturday.

Two separate High Court benches awarded him six months bail on February 6 in the weapons case, and one year bail on February 4 in a drug case.

He moved the High Court after a special tribunal rejected his bail plea on November 27.

GK Shamim, who was known as an influential contractor of Sabujbagh, Basabo and Motijheel areas of the capital, was arrested on September 20 last year.

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion confiscated illegal firearms and fixed-deposit receipts worth Tk 165 crore, Tk 1.8 crore in cash and foreign currencies from his Niketan home and office.

On September 21, the elite force lodged three cases against Shamim with Gulshan Police Station–one under drug regulation, one under the prevention of money-laundering and another under weapons operations.
