On Wednesday morning at least 200 shanties were gutted as a massive fire tore through a slum in the Rupnagar part of the city.
No casualty was reported.
Fire Service and Civil Defense Duty Officer Russel Shikdar said the fire started in a Rupnagar slum shanty at about 9:45 a.m. and consumed neighboring areas.
On information, twenty-five firefighting units rushed down to the location and extinguished the fire at about 12:30 pm.
The authorities could not immediately determine the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
Abul Kalam Ajad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rupnagar Police Station, confirmed the incident to media.
