Papia, Her Husband Put On 15-Days Remand in 3 Cases

Two courts here today put Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Nur Papia and her husband on a fresh 15-days remand in three cases with the Airport and Sher-e-Banglanagar police stations lodged against them.

In two cases filed with Sher-e-Banglanagar Police Station under the Special Powers Act and the Arms Act, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sarafuzzaman Ansari has put them on a 10-day remand.

Besides, in another case filed with the Airport Police Station under the Special Powers Act, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court, Debrata Biswas issued them a 5-day remand.

The courts issued the order after police produced them before the courts seeking a 30-day remand for each in the three cases.

The elite force arrested Papia, 28, general secretary of Narsingdi district unit of Mohila Jubo League, her husband Mofizur Rahman, 38, and their two associates -–Sabbir Khandaker, 29, and Sheikh Tayiba, 22, -- from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on February 22 while trying to flee the country.

It also recovered seven passports, around Tk 2.12 lakh in cash, Tk 25,600 in fake currency, a huge amount of fake currencies of different countries from their possession during the arrest.

On February 23, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) raided two city houses of Papiya and her rented presidential suite at a five-star hotel and seized Tk 58.41 lakh in cash among other things.

Two cases were filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station under the Special Power Act and the Arms Act on February 24 and another case filed with Bimanbandar Police Station under the Special Power Act on February 23.

On February 24, the couple was placed on a 15-day remand in the three cases.
