Sentencing Minors by Mobile Courts Illegal: HC

The High Court (HC) declared the illegal punishment of minors by mobile courts on Wednesday and overturned the conviction of 121 such child accused.

The High Court Division of Justice Sheik Hassan Arif and Justice Md Mahmud Hassan Talukder passed the order after having a hearing on a rule issued earlier in this regard.

Barrister Abdul Halim and Advocate Ishrat Hasan took part in a plea hearing in this case, while Deputy Attorney General Bipul Bagmar argued in favor of the state.

Earlier on 31 October 2019, the High Court directed the release of minors under the age of 12 who were sentenced by mobile courts and issued six months ' bail to children between 12 and 18 years of age who were not convicted by juvenile courts.
