Family Files GD Seeking Whereabouts of Missing Photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol

Photojournalist's family Shafiqul Islam Kajol has filed a general diary (GD) with Chawkbazar Model Police Station alleging that he has been missing since March 10 after a lawmaker from the Awami League governing lodged a complaint against him and 31 other individuals under the Cyber Security Act 2018.

"Wednesday afternoon, the photojournalist's wife Julia Ferdousi lodged the GD with the police station. Law enforcers are looking into the issue, "Chawkbazar Model Police Statio Maudud Hawlader official-in-charge said on Thursday morning.

Manoram Palak, son of a missing journalist, alleged that they failed to develop some kind of communication with Kajol for two days after he left their home in the Bakshibazar part of the capital on Tuesday night.

Kajol, currently editor of the fortnightly Pokkhokal weekly, has served in numerous national dailies as a photojournalist, including Daily Samakal and Bangla market daily Bonikbarta.

Awami League lawmaker Magura-1 constituency Saifuzzaman Shekhar lodged a complaint earlier on Monday night against Daily Manabzamin editor-in-chief Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, journalist Al-Amin and 30 others under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act for allegedly publishing and spreading fake news on the social media.

The case was lodged with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station for publishing a story on the detention of Shamima Nur Papia, the chief of the expelled Jubo Mohila League. Thirty Facebook users have been charged in the investigation, including the missing journalist Kajol.

Saifuzzaman Shikhor filed the case as his name was listed in the article, alleging he was associated with Papia's illegal activities.
