Govt Imposes ‘Lock Down’ on Shibchar Upazila

Local administration at Madaripur's Shibchar Upazila has announced shutting down all markets, mass transportation bar pharmacy, the kitchen market and grocery stores to curb coronavirus spread in the town.

Shibchar Md Asaduzzaman's Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) confirmed this to media Thursday afternoon.

The' lockdown' announcement came a few hours after health minister Zahid Maleque said the government may enforce a lockdown on the region including district Madaripur.  

In addition, the Upazila administration advised that some 212 citizens in the district had been told to remain at home in quarantine to avoid coronavirus transmission.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, four more people in the country were tested positive for coronavirus(Covid-19), taking the overall number of corona cases up to 18.

In a media conference, health minister Zahid Maleque told that at least 5,000 citizens had been quarantined to avoid coronavirus transmission until Thursday morning.

Besides, the authorities confirmed the first death from coronavirus in the country on Wednesday.

On Thursday the death toll from coronavirus or Covid-19 global crossed 8,967. Until now, according to worldometer, it has killed 219,240 people worldwide.

Of those actually in moderate or severe care, 124,528 are being handled with 6,815.
