Wife of Coronavirus-Hit Bangladeshi Man in Singapore Gives Birth to a Baby Boy

The wife of a coronavirus-infected Bangladeshi migrant worker in Singapore has given birth to a baby boy in Bangladesh, the Singaporean newspaper The Straits Times reports.

The baby arrived on Monday afternoon, the MWC or Migrant Workers 'Center said, adding that both the mother and the infant were healthy and well.

The child's father, a 39-year-old construction worker, is not yet informed of this, according to the report.

The wife, however, came to see her husband via a video call the day before she was conceived, so she could "get the strength to see her beloved until she was raised," the MWC said.

The Bangladeshi man, also known as Singapore's Case 42, has remained sedated and in critical condition since he was first admitted almost two months ago.

He remains in an intensive care unit owing to problems induced by COVID-19.

The worker was cured of the disease and moved to the National Center for Infectious Disease a few days ago, the MWC said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

"His condition remains critical, but we are encouraged by this latest development and continue to ask for everyone's prayers for him.”

The man is reportedly in another government facility, according to the newspaper.

The Bangladesh High Commission reported earlier that the worker suffered from respiratory and kidney problems and from pneumonia before becoming diagnosed with the virus.

In an interview with The Straits Times last month, the wife, who declined to be identified, said she had last seen her husband in June last year.

They've been married for two years, and the boy is their first boy.

Her husband, who has employed in Singapore for nearly a decade, was the first of five Bangladeshi work-pass holders to be connected to a cluster of infections at the Seletar work site. The remaining four employees have been fired, states The Straits Times.
