1 Dies from Cold, Fever in Nilphamari; Physician Tests ‘Corona Positive’

A 65-year-old man suffering from cold and fever died in Domar Upazila in the Nilphamari district, while a physician at Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex was confirmed to have been found contaminated with coronavirus on Wednesday.

The old man who had been cared for fever, cold and cough in his village of Khanpara died early in the morning, he said.

Sample of the deceased was collected and sent to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital for coronavirus testing when his house was locked down, Dr. Ibrahim said.

Officer-in-charge of the Domar Police Station Mostafizur Rahman said they buried the body as locals were afraid to make any arrangements for his burial.

While, Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex physicians were held in isolation after they were confirmed to have been found contaminated with the virus, while 243 other men, including doctors and nurses, were sent home to quarantine.

Civil Surgeon Ranjit Kumar Barman said the Health Complex was put under lockdown at 5 pm on Tuesday and urged the local people to take necessary treatment from Community Clinics at the union level.

The infected doctor, whose name was not disclosed, went to Dhaka on March 25 and fell sick after he returned to his workplace on April 3.

Meanwhile, three more people died in the country from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 20, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR)

Besides, 54 people tested positive for COVID-19 during the period, raising the number of such cases in the country to 218.
