Tk 750cr Insurance for Those Working in Coronavirus Frontlines: PM

Prime Minister Sheik Hasina today announced the allocation of Tk 750 crore for insurance to physicians, nurses, health workers; field officers; representatives of law enforcement agencies, armed forces, BGB; and other government employees who sacrifice their life to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

PM made the declaration by addressing the country this evening on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the New Year in Bengali, to be observed tomorrow.

If any of the above is affected while on duty, they will receive health insurance in the amount of Tk 5 lakh to Tk 10 lakh according to their designation and the rate will increase by 5 times in case of death, the Prime Minister said, adding that Tk 750 crore has been allocated to their health and life insurance.

In addition to the allocation for health and life insurance, Sheik Hasina has promised government health workers closely working with coronavirus patients with a separate allowance.

"I have also asked for a list of government health workers employed specifically with coronavirus victims, who will earn a separate payment. Tk 100 crore has been allocated for this purpose," she said.

She also thanked doctors, nurses, health workers, government officials and employees, and journalists for their effort during this difficult time.

CELEBRATE PAHELA BAISHAKH AT HOME

The prime minister urged the countrymen to celebrate the Bangla New Year with family members at home.

"We're going to celebrate this New Year at home," said the minister.

"Don't go out without an urgent need. Don't join crowds. Maintain hygiene. Save yourself and family members from coronavirus infection," she added.
