Bangladesh Reports 219 New COVID-19 Cases As Death Toll Reaches 50

The death toll of the novel coronavirus in Bangladesh has hit 50, a bleak landmark, with four more deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

About 219 new pathogens were identified during the same time, taking a positive test count of 1,231, Health Minister Zahid Malik said on Wednesday.

Seven more patients have recovered and gone home in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of patients recovering to 49, Zahid said.

The Minister of Health also expressed his condolences on the death of Dr. Md Moinuddin of Sylhet Medical College, the first physician to succumb to the disease in Bangladesh.

Moinuddin, an assistant professor of the medical college's medicine department, passed away at Dhaka's Kurmitola General Hospital on Wednesday.
