US-Bangla Airlines to Operate Flights to Bring Back Stranded Bangladeshis from India

US-Bangla Airlines will operate special flights to bring back Bangladeshi nationals who have been stuck in Chennai and Kolkata owing to a regional shutdown in India during a coronavirus outbreak.

Kamrul Islam, General Manager (Public Relations) of the US-Bangla Airlines, confirmed it to the media by phone on Friday.

He said they will operate six special flights on Chennai-Dhaka route from April 20-25.

Two more special flights will carry the Bangladeshi from Kolkata to Dhaka on April 21 and April 23, he said.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Relations, around 2,500 Bangladeshi citizens, including more than 1,000 scholars, have been stranded in various Indian cities owing to the latest lockdown.

Earlier on 30 March, media reported that there are currently three groups of Bangladeshi nationals in India-who are willing to remain back until the situation improves but face a cash crisis, students and those who are discharged from hospitals after the required care.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Bangladesh Missions in India are looking into welfare issues of Bangladesh nationals in India.

Officials at the Missions are in constant contact with Bangladesh citizens in India over phone.
