DMP to Enforce Social Distancing Strictly from Today

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will take a stern line from Saturday to maintain social isolation in the city.

The decision was taken at a meeting between Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam and senior police officers at Dhanmondi Minister's residence.

The change came when both the death toll from coronavirus and new cases of infection continued to escalate in the country.

Bangladesh has reported the largest number of coronavirus deaths on Friday, with 15 more people suffering from virus infection in the last 24 hours before the weekend, raising the country's death toll to 75.

Besides, 266 people tested positive for coronavirus during the period, raising the number of such cases in the country to 1,838.

At the meeting, it was also decided to form committees under the supervision of Awami League at 139 wards of the two Dhaka city corporations as per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to distribute relief materials.

A police member will be there in each committee.

Presidents and general secretaries of Dhaka South and North city units of Awami League were also present at the meeting.
