The Magura Sadar Upazila administration has allocated food for stray animals who are going hungry because of the ongoing countrywide shutdown to curb the coronavirus outbreak.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abu Sufiyan said some 10 kg rice and 4 kgs of chicken will be allocated for the animals. They will be fed twice a day.

A volunteer group named 'Tarun Decorator' was tasked with cooking and providing food to the animals at four points of the district town.

Stray animals are facing starvation due to the closure of different restaurants and other institutions.

''As a result, the animals have become more ferocious. The local administration has taken the decision to provide food on humanitarian grounds,'' said the UNO.
