Patuakhali Put On Lockdown

The local administration in Patuakhali on Sunday shut the district in an attempt to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus.

As a consequence of the restrictions, none of them may reach the district and leave it before a further warning is given.

Deputy Commissioner Md Motiul Islam Chowdhury said the district was shut down to curb the spread of COVID-19, as the neighboring districts of Barishal and Barguna had taken the same measure.

During the period, transport shutdown will also remain effective throughout the region, DC said, noting that vehicles used by emergency responders would be excluded from restrictions.

A person contracted the deadly virus and another died of the Patuakhali epidemic, civil surgeon Zahangir Alam said.

Coronavirus has started to spread to the newer districts of Bangladesh after the nation first reported the cases of the deadly virus on 8 March.

Some 2,456 people caught the novel coronavirus and 91 died from the virus in the country as of Sunday.
