17 of a Family Test Positive for Corona at Chawkbazar

Seventeen people of a family at Chawkbazar in Old Dhaka have been infected with coronavirus.

Moudud Hawlader, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Police Station, said two members of the family have initially tested positive.

IEDCR later found 15 others of the family infected with COVID-19.

The family members live in a house near Hazi Ballu Road of the Chawkbazar, the OC said.

Following the infection of 17 people, their building and neighborhood have been brought under lockdown.

Five people died of COVID-19 and 55 others were diagnosed with Chawkbazar disease, a heavily inhabited neighborhood in the older section of Dhaka.

Sources said that more than 1,000 coronary cases have so far been reported in the capital—-150 in Old Dhaka alone.

Of the deceased, 20 used to live in Old Dhaka. About 500 buildings in the city have been lockdown.
