Workers of a readymade garment factory in Paltan area in the capital on Wednesday took to the street in protest after the factory authority announced 'layoff' amid the ongoing coronavirus shutdown.
Almost 150 agitated workers of Eton Fashions demonstrated on the streets behind the National Scout Bhaban for nearly two hours on Wednesday morning, said police.
Paltan Police OC Abu Bakr Siddique told media that the factory authorities put up a 'layoff' notice on Wednesday that sparked agitation among the workers.
"Upon seeing that, the workers began pouring onto the streets to protest from 9:30 am. Later ended the protests at around 11:30 am, as no-one from the owner's side came there,'' said OC Abu Bakr.
However, the factory owners cleared all the dues of around 500 workers of the factory.
