Woman Suffering from Pneumonia Dies at KMCH

Doctors have collected samples from a young woman for the COVID-19 test after she died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) on Tuesday while undergoing treatment for pneumonia.

The deceased was identified as Lima Khatun, 25, daughter of Julfikar Ali of Pirojpur.

Doctor Sailendranath Biswas of KMCH said the girl was suffering from pneumonia for the last four days and was hospitalized on Monday.

She died around 4am, he said.

''We collected her samples for coronavirus test as pneumonia could be a sign of COVID-19 infection,'' Dr Biswas said.

So far, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has confirmed 83 coronavirus cases in the Khulna division – eight in Khulna district.

Meanwhile, the health authorities on Monday said the country’s total confirmed cases rose to 5,913 with 152 deaths.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) imposed heavy restrictions on movement after declaring the whole country vulnerable to infection on April 16.

The global death toll from coronavirus reached 211,537 on Tuesday morning with 3,064,225 confirmed cases since the virus was first reported in China in December last year, according to the worldometer.
