Another Special Flight to Bring Back Bangladesh Citizens from Delhi May 5

The government has arranged another special flight on the Delhi-Dhaka route on May 5 (Tuesday) to carry back Bangladeshi nationals stranded in India in the midst of a country-wide lockdown owing to coronavirus.

This will be operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, said the High Commission of Bangladesh in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Many who may not obtain tickets for the May 2 flight may now expect to fly on the May 5 flight, the High Commission said.

The High Commission is in touch with the authorities concerned, both in Bangladesh and India, for the early repatriation of those wanting to return to Bangladesh.

Nevertheless, the authorities have prohibited foreign travel despite the cross-border transmission of Coronavirus.

The Government earlier scheduled three more special flights to carry back Bangladeshi nationals who were stranded in the Indian cities of Kolkata, New Delhi and Mumbai in the midst of the coronavirus lockdown in three lots on May 1-3.

National flag carrier Biman Bangaladesh Airlines will fly special flights in conjunction with the Bangladesh Missions to New Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata.

The Kolkata-Dhaka flight will be run on May 1 and the Delhi-Dhaka flight on May 2 and the Mumbai-Dhaka flight on May 3.

A total of 996 stranded Bangladeshis returned from Delhi and Chennai by six special flights so far, said Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.

So far, approximately 1,000 (one thousand) Bangladeshis, stranded in Indian cities as a consequence of the lockdown since March 25, have returned home via air and land routes with assistance from Bangladesh missions in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Guwahati and Agartala, according to the High Commission, which has continued its efforts to encourage the return of more Bangladeshis still trapped in India.
