Eight men, including seven RMG workers, were infected with coronavirus in the last 24 hours before Friday night after the re-opening of limited-scale garment factories at risk of virus transmission.
Confirming the matter, Savar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Sayemul Huda said he has sent a letter to Upazila Nirhabi Officer requesting the closure of all factories, including garments, as coronavirus cases are on the rise in Upazila.
He also requested the local MP and the Minister of State for Disaster and Relief in this regard and sent a copy to the Director-General of the Health Directorate and to the other departments concerned.
Among the garment workers, five are male and two are female and are undergoing treatment at Mirpur Lalkuthi General Hospital.
The houses of infected patients have been put under lockdown.
Meanwhile, garment worker Selim Hossain, who tested positive five days ago, went into hiding.
