40 Million People Get Govt Relief So Far

The government has so far provided relief items to some 40 million people across the country with a view to easing their sufferings and miseries during the coronavirus crisis.

The government continues providing its relief assistance to lessen the sufferings of the common people throughout the country during this crisis caused by the novel coronavirus, said a PID handout on Saturday.

''The government has so far provided relief to some four crores (40 million) people across the country as humanitarian assistance,'' it stated.

As of May 1 last, 1.24 lakh metric tonnes of rice was allocated and 92,341 metric tonnes of rice was disbursed among 93.38 lakh families. And the total number of beneficiaries is 3.95 crore people, according to data gleaned from 64 district administrations of the country, the handout added.

Besides, some Tk 64 crore – Tk 52.17 crore for cash assistance and 11.95 crores for baby food assistance--- was allocated for 64 districts of the country.

In addition, Tk 41.69 crore was disbursed as cash assistance among the needy families, while Tk 8.42 crore was distributed as baby food assistance in the country during the period.
