Domestic Flights May Resume from 8 May: CAAB

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) today directed all the airlines to take preparations for resuming domestic flights from May 8.

''Permission to resume domestic flights from May 8 will be given if the coronavirus situation improves,'' CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman said, reports UNB.

''There has been no final decision yet,'' he said adding all the airlines and airports have been directed to get ready.

The CAAB chairman also said airlines will be permitted to carry a maximum of 70-75 percent passengers and the number of flights will be limited. ''Maintaining health directives is a must even if the permission is given.''

Earlier on March 21, Bangladesh canceled all the international passenger flights. Later, on March 24, the government suspended the operation of all domestic flights to control the transmission of coronavirus in the country.

The government has so far reported 175 deaths and 8,790 coronavirus cases in Bangladesh.

However, the government has decided to extend the ongoing general holidays again till May 16 in a bid to tamp down the spread of the deadly virus.
