Parents Sell Baby Failing to Pay Hospital Bill

A couple was forced to sell their newborn baby failing to pay the hospital bill for treatment.

Selling the baby, the couple finally paid Tk 25,000 as the hospital bill.  

The baby was taken back to the parents after the matter drew attention to the high official of police.  

The incident took place at Central Hospital in the Konabari area of Gazipur on Friday, according to media reports.

The father and mother of the newborn child were identified as Md Sharif and Keya Khatun. They reside in the Enayetpur area of Gazipur. Both of them work at a local garment factory.

Police Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police Md Anwar Hossain said the couple works at a garment factory. They were unable to pay the bill of the hospital due to their poverty. Later, they were compelled to sell their baby at Tk 25,000 and paid the bill of the hospital.  

The baby was brought and returned to the parents after returning the money to those the baby was sold, he added.   

Local people said Keya took admission in a private hospital at Konabari with her pregnancy on April 21. She gave birth to a baby boy on that day thereby cesarean section.  

She spent in the hospital for 11 days. And the hospital cost was estimated at Tk 42,000. And the couple was unable to pay such an amount and finding no alternative they sold their son.

Additional IG (SB) Shahidul Islam first came to know the matter. And he informed it to Police Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police Md Anwar Hossain.

At one stage, Police Commissioner Md Anwar Hossain brought the child returning the money to those who bought the child.
