BGB Files Case against Journo Kajol for ‘Trespassing Into Bangladesh from India’

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has lodged a complaint against photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol, who was found fifty-three days after his disappearance this morning for "entering Bangladesh illegally from India via the Benapol frontier."

The news was reported by Benapole Port Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Mamun Khan.

Police will soon produce the photojournalist before the court, the OC said.

He didn't have a passport or a visa when he was discovered earlier today, according to police sources.

Earlier, Kajol was found early Sunday in Jashore's Benapol, around three months after his abduction and disappearance.

Kajol's son, Monorom Palak, said they had received a call from the Benapol Port Police Station about 2 a.m. that his father Kajol had been located near the border with India.

"I had talked to my father via the cell phone of the police. He said that he is well, "Monorom said.

Police said Border Guard Bangladesh officials had brought the guy to them, and they later learned that Shafiqul was a missing journalist.

On March 10, the journalist was allegedly abducted by some anonymous persons from in front of his Hatirpool office. Later, his family filed an abduction case.

Just two days before the disappearance, the journalist was sued by Saifuzzaman Shikhor — a ruling party lawmaker from Magura-1—under the latest Digital Security Act, charged with publishing a story with "fake facts" and spreading it on social media.

Kajol's family lodged a general diary with the Chawkbazar Police Station the next day, declaring him missing.
