Daily Somoyer Alo journalist died early on Wednesday with symptoms of coronavirus – fever, cold, and cough.

Deceased Mahmudul Hakim Opu served as a sub-editor with the daily.

Previously, Chief Reporter Humayun Kabir Khokan died on April 28 after becoming diagnosed with the deadly virus.

Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) organizing secretary and Somoyer Alo senior reporter Habibur Rahman told Jago News that Opu's wife found him dead during Sehri.

The late media man had been suffered from COVID-19 symptoms, quoting his wife, Habibur added.

The media workers across the world are at high risk to contract the virus as they have to work amid lockdowns.

A good number of journalists in Bangladesh have already been tested positive for COVID-19, prompting some houses to choose an alternative way of staying in operation.

Bangladesh confirmed the first cases of COVID-19 on 8 March and has seen an increase in the number of infections and deaths since then.

The nation has now recorded 790 coronavirus cases, the highest single-day rate, with a total of 11,719, and a total of 186 deaths.
