COVID-19 Infection Toll Jumps to 12,425; 13 More Dead

13 more people died of coronavirus in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours until Wednesday, taking the total number of deaths to 199 in the country.

In addition, there are a total of 12425 reported cases, and 706 more people tested positive for coronavirus during the period.

This is the second biggest single-day spike ever since the virus was first identified in Bangladesh on March 8.

Prof. Dr. Nasima Sultana, Director Additional Director General for Health Services (DGHS), released a regular online health bulletin held at the Management Information System (MIS) on Wednesday afternoon.

In the last 24 hours, several coronavirus testing laboratories around the country tested 5867 samples, she added.

Earlier on April 16, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) declared the entire country as 'vulnerable zone' to virus infection.

Meanwhile, the government of Bangladesh prolonged the general holidays until 15 May to curb the transmission of highly contagious viruses.

Bangladesh reported the first cases of coronavirus on 8 March and its first death on 18 March.

The worldwide coronavirus death rate was 265,051 as of Thursday.
