Coronavirus Cases Near 14,000; 8 New Deaths

Coronavirus cases continue to rise in Bangladesh as 636 more people tested positive in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of infected people to 13,770.

8 more people died from the disease in the country in the last 24 hours till Saturday.

"With the new figures, the death toll rose to 214, while the number of new cases to 13,770," said Prof. Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in her regular online health bulletin in the afternoon.

In the last 24 hours, 35 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested 5,465 samples, she added.

Bangladesh reported the first confirmed coronavirus case on 8 March and the first virus death on 18 March.

According to Worldometer, the global death toll from coronavirus surpassed 276,253 as of Saturday.

So far, 1,387,259 people have recovered from COVID-19 across the globe.

Meanwhile, 48,699 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.

Since it was first reported in China in December last year, coronavirus has infected 4,014,500 people globally, the Worldometer data shows.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
