Dengue: DNCC Operates Mobile Courts

On Tuesday, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) operated eight mobile courts as part of its anti-mosquito campaign to kill the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes, responsible for dengue and chikungunya.

The DNCC press release said that mobile courts were functioning in the Uttara, Mirpur, Badda, Asad Avenue and Gulshan areas.

During the drive, many establishments and under-construction buildings in Mirpur and Gulshan areas were fined Tk 16,000 as larvae of Aedes mosquitoes were found there.

In the meanwhile, according to the Directorate-General for Health Services (DGHS), a fresh dengue case was registered in the last 24 hours before 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Since the beginning of this year, 299 dengue cases were reported and of them 298 patients have been discharged.

Bangladesh experienced a massive dengue outbreak last year when 101,354 people were hospitalized. Of them, 101,037 made full recovery.

According to official figures, the mosquito-borne disease killed 179 people in 2019.

As the country struggles to control the transmission of coronavirus, an epidemic of dengue would be disastrous at this period and will present a significant threat to the nation's health care system.
