COVID-19 Cases Rise to 22,268; 14 More Deaths

The novel coronavirus has continued to gripple Bangladesh as 1,273 more people tested positive in the 24-hour span, bringing the total number of cases to 22,268 as os Sunday.

Fourteen more people died of the deadly disease during the period, taking death tally to 328.

Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at its daily online briefing.

In the last 24 hours, 42 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested 8,114 samples, she added.

The global death toll from the deadly coronavirus has reached 313,400 as of Sunday.

According to worldometer records, 4,733,883 cases have so far been confirmed since the virus was first identified in China in December of last year. So far, 1,818,018 persons have been recovered.

Among the currently 2,602,465 infected patients, 2,557,626 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent while 44,839 are in a critical situation.

The World Health Organisation declared the outbreak of coronavirus a pandemic on 11 March. Bangladesh reported the first cases of coronavirus on 8 March and its first death on 18 March.

In order to deal with the deteriorating coronavirus crisis, the government prolonged the general holidays on Thursday until 30 May.

In line with the extended general holidays, the Roads and Highways Division (RHD) said the public transport services will also remain suspended until May 30.
