COVID-19 Death Toll Now 370, Confirmed Cases 25,121

Coronavirus cases in Bangladesh jumped to 25,121 as 1,251 more people tested positive for the disease in the last 24 hours as of Tuesday.

The death toll from the disease, which originated in Wuhan of China, also rose to 370 as 21 more people died within this period.

Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at its daily online briefing.

In the last 24 hours, 42 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested 8,449 samples, she added.

The global death toll from the deadly coronavirus has reached 320,367 as of Tuesday.

According to worldometer records, 4,905,471 cases have so far been confirmed since the virus was first identified in China in December of last year. So far, 1,916,281 persons have been recovered.

Among the currently 2,668,823 infected patients, 2,624,047 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent while 44,776  are in a critical situation.

The World Health Organisation declared the outbreak of coronavirus a pandemic on 11 March. Bangladesh reported the first cases of coronavirus on 8 March and its first death on 18 March.

In order to deal with the deteriorating coronavirus crisis, the government prolonged the general holidays on Thursday until 30 May.

In line with the extended general holidays, the Roads and Highways Division (RHD) said the public transport services will also remain suspended until May 30.
