COVID-19: 28 Die in Last 24 Hours; 1,532 New Cases

Coronavirus cases in Bangladesh soared up by a significant number recently as 1,532 new patients tested positive in the 24-hour period till Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 33,737.

During this period, 28 more people died as a consequence of the widespread of COVID-19 disease, resulting in 480 deaths.

This is by far the highest single-day death toll since the virus emerged in this country.

Prof. Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director-General of the Directorate-General for Health Services (DGHS), made the statement at his daily online briefing.

In the last 24 hours, 47 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested 8,908 samples, she added.

She also said that 609 coronavirus-infected people have made a complete recovery in the country in the last 24 hours.

Bangladesh reported a large number of new cases of coronavirus—1,694 and 24 deaths in 24 hours before Friday morning.

Global situation 

The number of people lost their battle against coronavirus has reached 342,104 globally as of Sunday morning while the total number of confirmed cases across the globe climbed to 5,311,089.

At the same time, a total of 2,112,198 COVID-19 patients have so far made full recovery, according to John Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.

Coronavirus, first reported in China in December last year, is highly infectious and spread to over 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.

The US has been the worst-hit country having the highest number of infections and deaths – more than 1,622,670 cases and 97,087 deaths.

Meanwhile, Brazil has reached the second position with 347,398 cases and 22,013 deaths.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
