BCSIR Sent 5,000 VTM Kits to DGHS

The Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) sent 5,000 Viral Transport Medium (VTM) kits to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday.

The kits were sent to Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of the DGHS, in compliance with the directive of the Minister of Science and Technology. 

The VTM - a solution of salt, protein, and antibiotics - is used while collecting samples from the suspected Covid-19 patients.

These kits were produced locally in the laboratory of the Designated Reference Institute for Chemical Measurements, a sister organization of the BCSIR under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Specific guidance is provided on how to build kits from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control.
