Death Toll Climbs to 4 in Jamuna Boat Capsize

The deaths toll in the incident of boat capsize in Jamuna River near Chauhali of Sirajganj on Tuesday increases to four while 16 persons still missing.

Rashedul Islam Biswas, officer-in-charge of Chauhali Police Station, said the engine-run-boat with over 50 passengers on board was heading towards Chauhali from Enayetpur.

It sank around 1:30 pm near Sathalchar village of the Upazila, he said adding that a number of passengers managed to swim ashore immediately.

On information, members of Police and Fire Service went to the spot and started rescue operation. The bodies of a child and an elderly man have so far been retrieved, he added.
