Tamim Named WFP’s National Goodwill Ambassador

Bangladesh ODI Captain Tamim Iqbal has been named National Goodwill Ambassador of the World Food Program in Bangladesh.

On 1 June, WFP confirmed Tamim's appointment through a press release.

“I am honoured to be appointed as National Goodwill Ambassador of WFP - the United Nations agency that fights hunger worldwide, including in my own country Bangladesh,” Tamim was quoted as saying in the release.

"Although Bangladesh has made impressive economic growth in recent years, poverty is still rife, particularly in rural parts of the country. For many, the current crisis of COVID-19 is making their lives much more difficult. I hope to do my part to help the WFP combat hunger and bring hope to families and communities who need our assistance, "he said.

As Goodwill Ambassador Tamim will serve to increase the visibility of the WFP programs in Bangladesh, which span 64 districts throughout the country across school feeding, nutrition, livelihoods and refugee operations in Cox's Bazar.

"As an outstanding athlete, enjoyed by many both within and outside Bangladesh, Tamim carries with him not only his fame and scope but also his exceptional work ethic, kindness and compassionate spirit. We couldn't be more pleased to have him join our WFP team, "said Richard Ragan, Country Representative and Director of WFP Bangladesh.
