Perpetrators to Be Brought to Justice, Says Libyan Govt

The Libyan Government strongly condemned the killing of Bangladeshi citizens in Libya and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the killing "cowardly act" and expressed deep sympathy to the victims ' families and the government of Bangladesh.

In a message of condolence, the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the measures taken by the Libyan Government will be shared with the victims ' families and the Government of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said here on Monday.

Although Bangladesh has contacted the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to arrange for the bodies of 26 people, they have ultimately been buried in Libya.

Bangladesh sought compensation for their families and also sought information on human traffickers and demanded punishment for those involved in trafficking and killing after their arrest.

"We sought information about traffickers," said Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Friday.

Dr. Momen said the Libyan Ministry of the Interior ordered the arrest and punishment of the killers, but there is no effective administration of the Tripoli government in the area where Bangladeshi citizens were killed.

At least 26 Bangladeshi citizens were killed while 11 others were injured in a gun attack reportedly carried out by human traffickers in the desert town of Mizdah in Libya on Thursday.
