Coronavirus Cases in Police Force Exceed 5000

Bangladeshi policemen are infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) at an alarming rate, with 5,129 infected as of Monday.

In the past 24 hours, 241 policemen have been infected with the deadly virus, the highest number in a single day.

It has taken 15 lives in the unit so far, according to the sources in the police headquarters.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been hit hardest by 1658 policemen who contracted the infection.

A total of 1,876 policemen recovered from COVID-19.

Bangladesh confirmed the first cases of COVID-19 on 8 March and has seen an rise in the number of infections and deaths since then.

Coronavirus infections in the country stood at 49,534, with disease deaths at 672 to date.
