Former health minister and presidium member of the Awami League, Mohammad Nasim, has been tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Tanvir Shakil Joy, the son of Nasim and former Member of Parliament (MP), confirmed the matter to media on Monday night.
"His condition is now stable and he is undergoing treatment under Professor Dr Mohiuddin Ahmed," said Al Imran Chowdhury, CEO of Bangladesh Specialized Hospital.
Earlier, Mohammad Nasim was admitted to Bangladesh Specialized Hospital with a physical weakness in the Shyamoli area of the capital. He is reportedly receiving care at the hospital under the guidance of experts, according to the Awami League Party Sources.
Party sources said a member of Mohammad Nasim's family got infected with coronavirus and all the family members were tested at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University three days ago. Everyone's result, then, came negative.
Yet Mohammad Nasim eventually became seriously sick and was admitted to the hospital. He was later diagnosed with pneumonia.
