Coronavirus Deaths Exceed 900

Bangladesh continues to see a quick surge in the number of coronavirus cases on the 92nd day since the virus first emerged in the country.

Health authorities confirmed the detection of 2,735 cases in the 24-hour period on Monday.

The refreshed number of confirmed cases in the country now stands 68,504.

"During this period, 42 patients died, bringing the death count to 930," said Prof. Nasima Sultana, Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for Health Services (DGHS), during a regular online briefing.

This is so far the highest death toll in a single day.

Meanwhile, 657 more people recovered from the COVID-19 disease in this period, taking the total number of recovered patients to 14,507.

In the last 24 hours, 52 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested 12,944 samples, she added.

Bangladesh confirmed its first coronavirus cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.

Global Situation

The confirmed COVID-19 cases have exceeded 7million globally, with over 400,000 fatalities and more than three million recoveries, according to the latest tally from Johns Hopkins University.

The US has reported over 1.94 million coronavirus cases as of Monday morning Johns Hopkins University's latest tally showed.

The country's death toll from COVID-19 rose to 110,503.

The United Kingdom's death COVID-19 has reached  40,625 with the 2nd-highest global fatalities.

According to JHU data, Brazil has come up to the second position after the US with 691,758 confirmed coronavirus cases. 

The South American country counted 36, 455 deaths from the virus till the date.

Meanwhile, India took the fifth spot for countries worst hit by the COVID-19 pandemic on Monday.
