Condolences Pour In for Mohammed Nasim

Tributes and condolences continued for veteran politician and presidium member of the Awami League, Mohammed Nasim, who breathed his last during treatment at the Bangladesh Specialized Hospital this morning.

Immediately after his death, various political parties, socio-cultural organizations and people from all walks of life began to express shock at the death of a seasoned politician.

Different ministries named death as an irreparable loss and sent messages of condolence saying that death created a void in the politics of the country.

President M Abdul Hamid expressed profound shock at the death of veteran leader, organizer of the Awami League's 14-party alliance and former minister, reports the media.

"The death of Nasim is indeed an irreparable loss to Bangladesh's national politics," the President said in his message.

Recalling his outstanding contribution to Bangladeshi politics with due respect, he said that Mohammed Nasim was a fearless fighter in all the country's democratic movements, including the struggle for freedom and the war of liberation.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque expressed deep condolence and shock at the death of his predecessor and said Nasim had dedicated himself for the betterment of the country and its people. Nasim's death is an irreparable loss for the country, the health minister said.

Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Tajul Islam said that Nasim 's name is strongly related to the liberation war and the post-war historical and cultural conditions in Bangladesh. Tajul pursued the everlasting happiness of the departed soul and extended his condolences to the bereaved members of the kin.

Besides, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described Nasim as a veteran political leader and expressed deep shock at the death of the Awami League leader.

"We mourn the death of Mohammed Nasim. We also express our sorrow over his death," Fakhrul said while addressing a virtual press conference from his Uttara residence in Dhaka.
