The parliament secretariat has declared Sirajganj-1 constituency vacant as former health minister, veteran Awami League leader and also the spokesperson of 14-party alliance Mohammed Nasim passed away in recent times.
Senior secretary of cabinet division Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan revealed this information on Thursday.
The gazette notification, however, was published on Wednesday, he added.
It was stated in the notification that the Sirajganj-1 constituency fell vacant on June 13 following the death of a member of the parliament of 11th Jaitya Sangsad of Bangladesh Mohammed Nasim.
As per the constitution, there is a compulsion to hold by-elections within 90 days, if any seat of the Jatiya Sangsad falls vacant.
Therefore, the Election Commission (EC) will have to hold elections by September 10.
